The gematria connections of 38, and to a lesser extent 83, are associated with killing/murder and described as a kill code. The reason why these numbers have this label will be explored in this post by looking at two contemporary examples of the numbers as well as exploring one of the most famous lines in English literature.
The 2002 movie theater poster of “Murder by Numbers” shows 3 and 8 or 8 and 3. Relatively subtle in the title, E and B are substituted with 3 and 8.

Another Murder by Numbers reference is the song by The Police. The song Murder By Numbers is on the album Synchronicity, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronicity_(The_Police_album) released in 1983. Side note: Synchronicity (great album btw) sums to 83 in Single Reduction and 1982 Extended. 1982 was the year they started recording the album. After reading the song lyrics, it is hoped that people don’t think real murder is prevalent by the hands that practice the craft which involves gematria. The death of the “celebrity” part of the individual is typical and very real in the sense that the person that we know is gone, regardless if that person is still alive after a staged event or story. That said, it would be naive to think that real murder by numbers never happens.

In the public sphere, gematria has Greek and Hebrew utilization. “Gematria is the practice of assigning a numerical value to a name, word or phrase by reading it as a number, or sometimes by using an alphanumerical cipher.”
English gematria is much less recognized and discussed; however, it can be observed in the “news”, movies, literature, the translated Bible (particularly KJV); and other sources of information. It seems like a mixed bag, as usual, on how and why certain numbers are emphasized with meaning from English words, dates, etc. Which brings up the question of why 38/83 is often seen tied to kill/murder.

The English preposition “to” is like the Greek conjunction “να/Να” when used as a helping word to point something out.
Let’s look at Greek Isopsephy, particularly Greek Reduction. It is very interesting that “to kill” and it’s translation to Greek, “να σκοτώσεις” both sum to 38! Could this be the 38 root connection? Let’s look at other words like murder, killing and death:

Killing = 38 in Reduction…. And notice that “to kill” and “murder” both sum to 38 in Reverse Reduction. Murder also sums to 83 in reverse. Death = 38 Ordinal and 83 Alphanumeric Qabbala*. Sandra Bullock, the name of the popular actress who starred in the movie, sums to 83 RFR and 38 Septenary.
*Alphanumeric Qabbala is an interesting cipher with recent efforts of exploration by Luís Gonçalves . If you are interested in this cipher or want to know some history of other ciphers, check out his Gematria Research site. https://gematriaresearch.blogspot.com/2023/02/the-wonders-magic-of-alphanumeric.html
Looking again at the movie poster, B is 8 and E is 3. The shapes of the numbers and letters obviously played on a surface level.
The legendary wordsmith Sir Francis Bacon – oops I mean – Shakespeare famously wrote “To be or not to be”. The soliloquy about death that begins with those very famous words. Substituting the word be with kill adds another level of understanding doesn’t it? I’m talking about the avenger/revenge angle. “To kill or not to kill.” I.e., 38 or not 38 … To BE (83) or not to BE (83)… Further, the original line is “To be or not to be, I there’s the point,” This original line may show another hint because Hamlet is later killed by the point of a poisoned sword. ⚔️. Interesting choice of words and quite possibly a foreshadowed pun! Further, coincidental or contrived, this second part of the original line sums to 83, although it depends on the assumption that the fledgling 26 letter alphabet was known and used at the time of the play writing.*
*I defer to research by Richard Allen Wagner that Bacon indeed had knowledge of the 26 letter alphabet. https://sirbacon.org/Bacons%20Use%20of%20Gematria%20and%20the%2026%20Letter%20Alphabet.pdf

In case your guard is up, I am not the first to offer the idea that Hamlet is not contemplating suicide in A3,S1. To kill or not to kill is also suggested in this good article by Dr. Oliver Tearle of Loughborough University: https://interestingliterature.com/2018/11/a-short-analysis-of-Shakespeare-to-be-or-not-to-be-soliloquy-from-hamlet/
So 38 has meaning that was established in theory by looking at να σκοτώσεις in Greek Reduction; but what about the root for 83? Let’s look at a phrase that might have numerical significance to 83. Someone might say “according to the numbers” in occult practice. It sounds like something an ancient Greek philosopher would say, actually. Well, in Greek, the translation is “συμφωνα με τους αριθμους” which sums to 83 in Greek Reduction!

If people use phrases or have sayings and the gematria is meaningful behind it, then that would be something to explore. Again, just a theory on 38/83.
